Dyslexia is considered the most prevalent neurocognitive disorder, as it is estimated to
affect about 20% of the population (The Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity, n.d.-a). The
difficulties experienced by individuals with dyslexia can impact higher education and vocational
performance. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of the life-long difficulties
experienced by college students with dyslexia on their self-efficacy. An online Qualtrics survey
was sent to a sample of college students in the mountain west region. The survey questions
explored perceived self-efficacy, perceptions of success, factors that impact self-efficacy, and
experiences of individuals with dyslexia. Statistical analyses were conducted to investigate the
relationship between those with versus without dyslexia and criterion variables. Results are
reported and analyzed. The knowledge from this research can be used to create or adapt
treatment approaches for dyslexia which seek to increase self-efficacy. Implications, limitations,
and future directions are discussed.
