This dissertation explores the connections between humanity and the natural world, specifically the
ideas of domination and dominion, perception of the natural world and its relationship to the
development of societies, and what mutation says about a society and its values within the realm of
feminist science fiction spanning from 1969-1994. The dissertation ends with the development of an
ecofeminist first year literature course centering on the introduction of ecofeminism as a critical lens
for the exploration of literature earlier in a student’s academic career.
