The purpose of this study was to explore factors associated with speech-language pathologists’knowledge-base and confidencelevelswhen working with clients who are culturally and linguistically diverse(CLD).A survey in 2012 was distributed by email to 15,049 speech-language pathologists across the United States with 1,319 anonymous responses received. The questions related to exposure to and knowledge of multilingualism in clinical practice. The Pearson’s Chi-Square associationsbetween predictor (demographics, training, and work experience) and criterion (knowledge-base and confidence) variables were statistically significant. Respondents who had worked with clients who speak languages other than English, who had received training with multilingual speech-language pathologists, and/or who had received training to become multilingual speech-language pathologists demonstrated the strongest associations with increased confidence and increased knowledge-base.KeyWords:multilingualism, cultural and linguistic diversity, speech-language pathology, survey
